Many homeowners have critical information in their files including property tax information, closing documents, deeds, title reports and mortgage inspections. Other documents may be readily available at municipal or county offices. Many homeowners prefer to complete their own introductory research to save money.

How to Complete your own Introductory Research
|

|
|
Real Estate Tax Assessor’s Office - Usually located at your Town Hall. Look up your property by Name or by Location. Record The Tax Map ID Number Record the Deed Reference, Book & Page. Determine where the Land Evidence (RI-town) or Registry of Deeds Office (MA- county) is. Obtain a copy of the portion of the Tax Map upon which your property is shown.
Registry/Land Evidence Office - In Rhode Island, the Land Evidence Office is also at the Town Hall. In Massachusetts, the Registry of Deeds is in the County Offices. Obtain a copy of the deed for your property Determine if the deed mentions a plan or plat. Obtain a copy of the plan or plat mentioned in the deed.
